The Actual Power of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is upon us! It's wonderful to gather with family and friends to celebrate the bounteous blessings of our lives. The turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and homemade soft rolls with melting butter make all of our hearts stir in anticipation for this peaceful day of the year. But, there is something just as powerful going on at Thanksgiving that we rarely consider.... that gratitude actually DOES something for us! What does it do? Well, let me tell you! Gratitude...

  • eliminates stress

  • improves sleep

  • makes you happier

  • improves relationships

  • enhances the law of attraction

  • heals

  • shields you from negativity

  • boosts self-esteem and performance

  • rewires your brain

  • improves emotional, physical, and psychological health

Aren't these AMAZING?? I think I'm liking the gratitude part BETTER than the pumpkin pie! So, what can you do to focus more on gratitude at this time of year?

How about a few journal prompts?

  • What family member or friend are you grateful for and why?

  • What personal trait are you grateful for and why?

  • What mistake or failure are you grateful for and why?

  • What is a tradition you're grateful for and why?

  • What freedom do you have that you're grateful for and why?

This is a simple and effective way to get you into the right spirit this Thanksgiving. Give it a try. There are many other ways to consider, show, and cultivate your gratitude. If you need just one really simple way to start... go around the Thanksgiving table and let everyone share what they're grateful for. But, if you have a little extra time, try the journal prompts, go serve someone in need, or write a letter of thanks. GIve it a try... it's all very powerful!

We'll leave you with this thought and wish you an happy, abundant holiday...

Be thankful for what you have and you'll end up having more. Focus on what you don't have and you will never, ever have enough.

Happy Thanksgiving!
