If you know Dr. Nielson personally, you know that one of his favorite things to do is hike! Near, far, long, short, summer, winter, you name it, he’ll hike it! We thought it would be fun to spotlight some of his favorite local trails for you to try or to experience again. Next week, we’ll ask him about his go-to out of town hikes, in case you need some extra adventure.
First off, Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitors Loop. This trail system offers easy to moderate trails accessible any time of year and are mostly tree lined. They range in duration from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Here is the link to see the map of the available hikes, recommendations, and current weather forecast in the park. Discover | Utah State Parks
Second, and no less awesome, is the Dutch Hollow Enchanted Forest Trail. It’s on the more difficult side and stretches just over a mile. Hikes in this area are best in the early or late season, as they tend to be open, dusty and hot. Here is the link to the map of all your Dutch Hollow Trail options. Third is the Deer Creek Trail running along the west side of Deer Creek Reservoir. It is a fully exposed trail, also best hiked in early and late season, which means it is currently the best time of year to give it a try! It’s beautiful and accessible even when it is cold and a little snowy. Here is the link: Deer Creek Trail | Utah State Parks
